Empowering yourself to change perspectives.
Perspective is a tricky but powerful thing. It can be the difference between feeling anxious and calm, depressed and happy or angry and unbothered.
Sometimes, when mental health diagnosis is involved - perspective can help but there are limitations.
However, there is this tendency many people have to underestimate the power of shifting perspective. This isn’t to say it’s an easy process by any means but that is to say it’s possible.
If somebody believes that how they see things is an inevitability no matter how much they try to change - then it’s only fair to expect change won’t be imminent.
It’s not uncommon in therapy to hear client’s say in response to a recommended perspective shift “that’s just not how I think”.
Often this is an unfair answer. How else can one expect change if they can’t empower themselves to think the way they want to start thinking.
Again easier, said then done but there is a definite benefit in learning to empower yourself to change the way you think.
